A Trug of flowers

When I found a lovely vintage trug in a little shop, I thought it would make a very good prop for a still life. Then I filled it with flowers from the garden. Here it is in this painting with shells that I have brought back from the seaside. I have made the tablecloth a […]

A Cornish Village

Recently I did this small gouache painting which is a combination of a still life and memories of a Cornish village. I love the thatched roof tops and paths down to the beach and up to the cliff tops. I have popped a sandpiper in the foreground which can often be seen on the Cornish […]

An imaginative painting inspired by Cornish harbours

This painting began at the RHS Spring Garden show in Malvern and I finished it at Hever Castle and gardens in Kent. It’s a nostalgic painting and partly inspired by a visit to Falmouth. It isn’t an accurate painting and the table, vase, chairs and bunting were added to give the painting a holiday feel.

Drawing “en plein air”

It was such a lovely morning I thought that I would go and draw outside by the river Severn near where we live. I used watercolour pencils and I am planning to create a riverside painting with small animals and birds that live in this habitat.

Fairies in the woods

Whilst I was exhibiting at Wisley RHS show with Craft in Focus last week and bank holiday Monday I was demonstrating painting and couldn’t resist painting fairies in the woodland.

A view of St. Ives Harbour

Much of my work involves looking back in time and memories. Many formative years were spent in holidays in Cornwall and when I revisit all the feelings and memories come flooding back to me. I wanted to capture the essence, light and atmosphere of spring morning overlooking the harbour.

The Breakfast Table

I have fond childhood memories of a Siamese cat that my Granny owned called Esmeralda and I thought I would put her into the interior of this domestic breakfast scene. This painting will add to my collection of a series of paintings that depict window views and scenes.

Exhibition at St. Georges Hall

This month I have an exhibition of original paintings and framed giclee prints in my home town of Bewdley, which is running until the beginning of May. I popped in the other day just to see that everything was okay and I have already sold a few paintings. I have chosen a selection of paintings […]

The Sandpiper

The ultramarine blues and turquoises of the Cornish Sea are in contrast to the soft sandy colours of the Sandpiper. I have popped a sandpiper in the foreground to complement the colours of the driftwood and shells which I found on the beach. This is a nostalgic painting to express my fond memories of holidays […]

A Spring Day

This new painting was inspired by the new flowers that are emerging and the washing on the line blowing in the wind. I have also placed a vintage tea cup into the composition that belonged to my Granny.
