Demonstrating painting at the Autumn show in Malvern

Combining ideas from two paintings is an experimental and creative way to design new images. I have used the “Will-O-The-Wisp” painting and “Fairies in the Woods” painting to create a new composition.

An Autumnal pallete

I love the seasons because the colours change and I can explore a new pallete; particularly these earthy Autumnal colours of browns, oranges and golds. When I am walking in the forest I can sense the wild animals moving in the undergrowth. Sometimes I will see an owl fly by or a squirrel run up […]

My stand at Hever Castle in Kent

It’s very enjoyable to paint while I am exhibiting. The light is always better outside and it always gives me something to talk about when people pass by. This painting depicts a view onto a garden in the height of Summer with a bowl of shiny red apples. I was fortunate to stay in a […]

A painting inspired by a trip to Honfleur in Normandy

Over the Summer I was lucky yo be invited to Honfleur to dance with Les Impromptues dance company. While I we was there, we danced by the beautiful harbour and a lovely red and white boat. I began this painting whilst I was exhibiting with Craft in Focus at Hever Castle in Kent.

The Turquoise Dress

During the very hot weather over the Summer I enjoyed painting with these cool colours. I used a vintage 1950’s ballroom dress and some vintage shoes to inspire me and I imagined looking out at a beautiful harbour view.

Painting in my outside studio

The sunlight can be particularly bright in the afternoons in this part of our walled garden and I try to use the light and shadows in my work. Colours can be bleached and iridescent.

Reflections of St.Ives

It was a pleasure in the hot weather that we have had recently to paint in cool colours and reflect on time spent by the sea. I have finally finished this painting.

An outside studio

Over this summer the weather has been warm enough to work outside in the garden. The light is lovely and the plants and flowers help with creative and positive ideas. I can use them as subject matter too with their interesting shapes, then put them into my compositions.

St. Ives view and cottage interior; work in progress

This painting is a progression from my earlier paintings of St. Ives. In the composition I am showing more of the interior but endeavouring to keep the luminosity and light from my previous paintings. It is also a much larger painting.

St. Ives View

I think the yellow ochres in the sand and turquoise from the sea at St. Ives make a subtle and delicate combination in this painting. I also used some iridescent paint to help capture the glint and reflections in the water.
