The finished paintings of a window view of Porthleven Harbour

The paintings took a while to complete. I like to add depth of colour and detail to create the right atmosphere and mood.
A tryptic of a window view of Porthleven in Cornwall

I have begun to paint three paintings of a view looking onto the harbour at Porthleven in Cornwall. The window view is from some studios that I visited a few moths ago. I have added an imaginary still life that I have recreated at home in my own studio and I am using my memories […]
RHS Garden show at Malvern

I’m busy preparing for my shows which begin at the end of next month. Last year at the RHS Spring Garden in Malvern, I was demonstrating painting a picture of Falmouth in Cornwall. Fortunately we were exhibiting in one of the large barns inside and I shall be there again this year with Boffy Arts […]
The Fairy painting Tryptic in progress

The three fairy paintings each have a bird in them. The first is a wren, the second a sparrow and the third is a dipper. I want the the paintings to have a lyrical quality reflecting movement and flow to express the change of the seasons from winter to spring.
Spring bluebell fairy

At long last spring is arriving and the bluebells will soon be flowering. In anticipation I have begun painting a fairy tryptic, this bluebell fairy is the first of the three.
A Commision of Severnside South in Progress

I want to add some more flowers in the foreground, perhaps daffodils and tulips; then develop the detail of the houses with bricks and tiles. The painting is […]
A new painting of the village of Polperro harbour

A visit to Polperro in Cornwall inspired this painting. It’s a small atmospheric painting in gouache. The boat in the foreground is called “Blue Fin” and I chose to use the colours of blues and greens expressively. I also add movement with flowing ripples in the water, birds flying and clouds in the sky as […]
Liverpool Docks

I began this painting of Liverpool docks a few years ago and I shall be visiting Liverpool again tomorrow; where I shall take some more photographs and sketch the docks. Although this gouache painting is nearly finished I think that I will add a few more boats.
Commission of Robin Hood’s Bay in Yorkshire

A variety of commissions continues to keep my job interesting. This small painting of Robin Hood’s bay was a pleasure to do because I drew upon memories of a visit there, which I had some years ago with my family.
High tide at Porthleven

The sea is so wild and choppy at high tide in Porthleven harbour. The splashing sound of the waves lapping against the harbour walls and the sea mist really add to the atmosphere.
